Bad HSBC

One customer. One record.

Bad HSBC is an independent, non-commercial record of HSBC’s conduct, and a place for UK customers to find each other.

How it started

This site was started by a UK HSBC customer. Over a long period they had recurring payments keep leaving their account after asking for them to be stopped, including after being told they had been blocked. They also had complaints that went nowhere and calls that were ended. HSBC paid compensation over one of these failures, but the problems carried on.

Looking into HSBC’s wider record showed a pattern of regulators, courts and prosecutors around the world repeatedly finding that the bank had failed its customers and broken the rules. That record is scattered across hundreds of press releases and news reports. This site brings it together in one place, in plain English, with every source linked.

What we do

  • Document HSBC’s fines, settlements, regulatory findings and court cases, and the impact on UK customers, staff and communities.
  • Explain customers’ rights in plain English, with free template letters.
  • Collect and, with permission, publish anonymised experiences from UK customers, so people with the same problem can find each other.

What we don’t do

  • Publish rumours, unverified claims, or allegations about individuals that haven’t been tested in court.
  • Take money from HSBC’s competitors, claims-management companies or anyone with a financial interest in what we publish.
  • Give legal or financial advice. We are not a law firm or a claims company.

Independence

This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to HSBC Holdings plc or any of its subsidiaries. The name “HSBC” is used only to identify the company being written about.
